Description

The Chassis

Every Schöner begins with an original Murciélago. The steel chassis is reverse-engineered in its original architecture, then rebuilt in Chromoly — a low-alloy steel named for its chromium and molybdenum content. It is stronger and tougher than the mild steel of the period. Thinner tubing can therefore be used without surrendering structural integrity. The result is lighter than the chassis Lamborghini accepted in the 2000s, while the geometry the car was designed around remains recognisable.

The silhouette is preserved. The structure beneath it is not.

Gregor Hans Schöner first worked with a Murciélago under his own name in 2009, when DMC was founded in Germany. The Murciélago was DMC’s first major project — the car through which the company learned the LP platform in detail. More than seventeen years of continuous work on the model followed: its structure, its tolerances, its weight, and the places where the original construction could be refined without losing what made it a Murciélago. That accumulated knowledge returns here as the foundation of The Schöner. The chassis is the point at which that continuity is made physical.

The Architecture

Chromoly offers a higher strength-to-weight ratio than standard carbon steel. Chromium improves hardenability and wear resistance. Molybdenum increases toughness and the ability to hold integrity under heat. The material can be further hardened through heat treatment, work hardening or carburisation. In motorsport it has long been chosen for roll cages, race chassis and high-stress engine components. Here it is used to refine the original Lamborghini frame rather than replace its intent.

The finished chassis retains the DNA of Sant’Agata while shedding the weight the original construction had to carry. It is the precise foundation on which the in-house prepreg carbon monocoque is then integrated. The combination raises torsional rigidity and lowers overall mass. The body still reads as Murciélago. The chassis no longer has to.

The Particulars

  • Base: original Lamborghini Murciélago frame architecture
  • Material: Chromoly (chromium-molybdenum low-alloy steel)
  • Properties: higher strength-to-weight than mild steel; heat-treatable; suitable for thinner tubing
  • Result: lighter chassis, maintained structural integrity, improved base for the carbon monocoque
  • Integration: steel skeleton beneath the prepreg carbon tub, preserving the original silhouette

The chassis is not a restoration. It is the structural starting point of a limited commission — twenty-five examples worldwide — in which every subsequent element is specified by the owner.
